Why Waffles are Scarier than Dating Taylor Swift

You’re never ever getting back together...But that's so NOT true.

You can love your waffles again!! First, if you don't have one, here is the link to a Standard Waffle Iron

Click here for a fancy one with removable plates

Let’s start with some standard tips:

  • Always start with room temperature ingredients
  • Preheat your waffle iron
  • You’ll know your waffle is done when steam stops billowing out

Here are a ton of great ideas!

  • Skip the maple syrup and drizzle with honey instead
  • Top with fruit and fresh ricotta
  • Top with strawberries and greek yogurt
  • Incorporate peanut butter with your batter, top with bananas
  • Incorporate cocoa powder and semisweet chocolate into the batter and serve with ice cream
  • Top with buffalo chicken (rotisserie chicken mixed with hot sauce, garlic powder and cayenne)
  • Oven "fried" chicken tenders, tomatoes and lettuce Click here for recipe
  • Bacon waffle grilled cheese (Cooked bacon between two waffles and shredded cheese, grilled)
  • Turkey, tomato, avocado
  • Caprese – mozz cheese, tomato and basil
  • Pizza waffles – pepperoni, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese
  • Quesadilla’s (tortilla and whatever makes your skirt fly up)
  • Breakfast quesadilla - tortilla, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese
  • Frozen Tater Tot's - every tot will be grilled to perfection
  • Tater tot & bacon grilled cheese waffle
  • Cheeseburger waffle
  • Ham and cheese waffle
  • Use premade brownie mix, top with ice cream
  • Put 4 Cinnabon buns on for 2 minutes and then drizzle with icing
If you are really daring, use some puff pastry. With bacon and cheese! I need to try this SOON.

This looks like a really fun book on Amazon. He has great ideas on what to do with your waffle iron other than just plain old waffles! Click here to see book.

Here is a standard recipe for waffles for two:

  1. 1 cup whole wheat flour or regular all purpose flour
  2. 3 tbsp sugar
  3. 1/2 tbsp baking powder
  4. 1/8 tsp salt
  5. 7/8 cup skim milk
  6. 1 egg
  7. 1 tbsp butter, melted
  8. 1/4 tsp vanilla
  9. 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  10. Heat waffle iron, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.
  11. Whisk the milk, eggs, butter and vanilla in another bowl.
  12. Whisk the milk mixture into the dry ingredients just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
  13. Pour about 1 cup into the center of waffle iron and bake until they are the crispness you enjoy.
  14. Some waffle irons have a “ready” light, mine does not.

Drizzle some Peanut yogurt sauce over your waffles! It sound so delicious!

Peanut Yogurt Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp. creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tbsp. low fat milk
Whatever you make, remember it's ok to enjoy your food. Everything in moderation!

Please let me know in the comments if you've made any of these combinations!
