Awesome Cereal Find!

I want to talk about something no one wants to talk about: Constipation. Such a hush hush subject right? Well, if you are "dieting" you may know exactly what I'm talking about. We start taking fat out of our daily routine and things, well, errr...slow down or stop all together. (sigh) Yes, I know we still eat GOOD fats but I'm obviously not getting enough.

This is what I've been dealing with for a few weeks now. So I started taking a Stool Softener/Laxative. Things work just fine if I take that pill every day! From what I can see, the active ingredient in this pill is Docusate Sodium and apparently you can take it every day.  However, I'd rather see what I can do naturally.

I did some research to see what I could change in my diet to help me instead of a pill. Every article I found says eat more fruits and vegetables, drink water and exercise. Well, duh, I'm already doing that! 3 to 4 servings of veggies and fruit a day, 80 to 100 oz of water and 5 days of exercise.

So now what?? More fiber! Oranges, apples, mangoes, strawberries, raspberries. Pears are a great option also (a few were in my cart this week). Veggies, beans, breads and nuts are also good for this "issue". Just google which ones are best.

Oh and, by the way, one article said bananas will work against you. I was eating a banana with my yogurt every day, now it will be every other day.

I found this cereal, Kashi Go Lean which has 13G of fiber per serving! That's a lot of fiber compared to other cereals. (Yes, I spent so much time in the cereal aisle reading labels and scanning with the app, that someone asked if I was ok. LOL)

You can have 1 and 1/4 cup of this cereal for only 5 points. That's a great amount!  I'm going to start out with a 1/2 cup serving for 2 pts. I've parceled the cereal out into baggies for a snack or to put in my yogurt in place of the banana. The cereal has a touch of honey and I love the crunch! It cost $3.99 and I got 14 (1/2 cup) servings.

I really hope this post has helped you in some way whether it be a new cereal to try or a high fiber snack you need in your life like me.

Enjoy!
